Taught Baden Powell's daughters in Cape Town.
Back in York she did supply teaching, her subjects Latin and History; In 1968 she went on a three month trip to visit her brother Dick's family in Tasmania and also to see Wela and Lyrline at Lismore, N.S.W. in Australia, on the way there she got off the ship at Cape Town to visit old haunts where she used to teach before her Nigeria appointment. During supply teaching in York she taught in every school and took an active part in the tri-ennial 'Mystery Plays', helping in the robing of the players. Cool and courageous in emergencies she shepherded her teenage charges to safety from a fire at Queen's College, Lagos - a dramatic incident in a full life.
Phil collected a number of letters from her brother Richard Gilbert Lee who had emigrated to Australia and was struggling to establish himself at the time. Click Here to see the Letters from Australia.
Phil took her three sons to Nigeria for six months in 1949, six weeks in 1954 and four weeks in 1956. In York she was in effect a single parent.
