Letters From Australia

Preface

This volume of letters were sent by Richard Lee from Australia to his parents, sisters Phil and Beat (and her husband Bert) and his brother Mick.  Only those up to the outbreak of the Second World War are included, prior to Richard’s move to Tasmania.  They were collected by Phil Bytheway (nee Lee) and originally typed by Yvonne and Bill Bytheway, now being re-typed by Roy Bytheway.  We have retained the original spelling – it is clear that Dick wrote as he thought and as a consequence his grammar and spelling are highly variable.  Occasionally we have added some punctuation but we thought it was essential to maintain as far as possible the freshness and vitality that is so apparent in his handwritten letters.
